(The intelligence behind the hardware)
| Software and Firmware are the
tools used to get the computing hardware to perform useful tasks. Software is similar to Firmware in the way they are developed and maintained, but differ in in the relationship to the hardware and Operating System. Software is independent of the hardware but dependent on the Operating System, while Firmware is independent of the Operating System but dependent on the hardware. Most Firmware is embedded in the hardware or subsystem to reduce time to access (latency) and provide faster execution speed. Software tend to reside mostly on removable or semi-permanent storage medium such as hard disk drives and diskettes. The main job of the Firmware is controlling of the hardware in such a manner that the Software can perform different data processing tasks. The Operating System is a mixture of Software and Firmware that
organizes the firmware into standard processing functions that can be accessed by the
Software. |
The tools, process and procedures used to develop both
are similar, and the methodology for verifying and validating both are the same.
Micro-Computer Data Processing is available to assist
you with your Software/Firmware Development.
